| As 2008 comes to a close, I thought I would write to you again to update you on some important highlights of the year at Hazan Hollander. | |
This year, we had a lot of success both in the Trade Marks Office, Federal Court, Supreme Court of Appeal and High Court of Australia having achieved many successful outcomes for clients in a range of intellectual property and commercial cases. Many of these cases can be viewed on our website by clicking here. An interesting interview between David Koch and Yves Hazan from the Yahoo 7 Site aired on Television. It explains the importance of trade mark registrations in doing business. Please do not hesitate to contact us to ensure your brands are properly protected in both Australia and internationally. Industrial relations laws will again be an important part of business upon which to focus on in 2009. By July the unfair dismissal laws that were effectively removed by work choices for businesses with 100 or less employees will be reinstated for employers with 15 or more. We are already seeing an increase in employee claims with clients being in need of more advice in this area. |
| There has been an increase in disputes between partners and shareholders of businesses in the later part of the year. One sure way to protect your businesses from these problems is to ensure you have in place a good shareholders agreement or partnership agreement. If your business is operating without these agreements, it is very important to have them in place. This will reduce the areas for dispute and the likelihood of litigation. In doing business, now more than ever before, it is vital to ensure that contracts are put into place to re duce uncertainty and minimise the risk of disputes and litigations. Call us to discuss the relationships your business has that may require a contract not presently in place. |
As you know, we are a team of three dedicated commercial and intellectual property lawyers that includes Principal Yves Hazan, Senior Associate Peter Whitehead and Lawyer Alison Baker. Details of the profiles of our staff can be found on our website by clicking here. For the holiday period this year, we will take a break from 19 December 2008 and will re-open on 12 January 2009 at 8.30am. We take this opportunity of thanking you all for your support, the many referrals we have received from you over the year upon which we very much depend and we wish you all of the greetings of the seasons and look forward to working with you in 2009. |
